Owners of residential buildings must prove the energy consumption of the property in an energy certificate when renting or selling. This is required by the new Building Energy Act (GEG), which came into force on November 1, 2020. The energy certificate contains the energy value of the building in kWh/m2a and an energy efficiency class
from A+ to H.
The energy certificate is registered with the German Institute for Building Technology. The costs for this are included in the final price. It is valid for 10 years from the date of issue.
The energy certificate applied for here can only be issued for residential buildings or the part of the building used for residential purposes.
If there are commercially used areas in the property that take up more than 10% of the total net floor area of the building, an additional application for non-residential buildings may have to be submitted.
To answer the questions, we recommend documents such as:
– construction plans
– Construction and plant descriptions
– further documents of the object
(e.g. documents about modernizations)
